Winter can be harsh on a baby’s delicate skin, causing dryness, rashes and irritation. A proper skincare routine can help keep your baby’s skin healthy and moisturised during the cold winter months.
Here’s a guide to help you winter-proof your baby’s skin with a day and night skincare routine for your baby.
Start the day by gently washing your baby’s face with a mild, natural, chemical and fragrance-free moisturising baby wash. This will remove any dirt or oils that may have accumulated on the skin overnight.
After cleansing, apply a baby-friendly, natural moisturiser or natural coconut oil to the face and body. Look for a product that contains natural ingredients such as shea butter, coconut oil, or jojoba oil to hydrate and nourish the skin.
Even during winter, it is important to protect your baby’s skin from the sun’s harmful rays. Apply a sunscreen that is water resistant and built with a Non-Nano Formulation, which means the particles don’t get absorbed into your baby’s skin while protecting their delicate skin from sun damage by the UVA & UVB rays, with an SPF of at least 30.
Winter weather can also be harsh on your baby’s delicate lips. Apply a nourishing lip balm to keep them hydrated and protected.
Give your baby a warm bath to help remove any dirt and sweat from the day. A warm bath before sleep also helps soothe a baby and they sleep better. However, make sure to keep the bath short during winter or give your baby a sponge bath. Use a mild, tear-free baby shampoo and a gentle and natural baby wash to cleanse the skin.
After bathing, gently pat your baby’s skin dry and apply moisturiser again to the face and body. This will help lock in moisture and prevent dryness overnight. Since most babies are in diapers throughout the night, use diaper rash cream in the diaper area to keep it free from rashes.
During winter, the air is dry and this causes the baby’s skin to become flaky, itchy and dry. Use a humidifier in your baby’s room to add moisture to the air, this helps to keep the baby’s skin hydrated.
It is important to note that every baby’s skin is different, and you may need to adjust your skincare routine accordingly. But with the right skincare routine, you can keep your baby’s skin healthy and comfortable all winter long.
