Bath time is one of the ways to make some great memories with your little one. Seeing your little one splash and enjoy in the tub can be a joyful and entertaining experience. Plus, when the parent and baby indulge in bath time together, it’s a great way to bond. That’s not all, you can even save time by bathing together with your baby!
Read on for five useful tips to have a fun bath time with your baby.
Before you and your baby step into the bath, gather the right supplies and place them within arm’s reach. Do not take off your hands from the baby when you reach out for the products. Keep bath essentials like the body wash, shampoo, baby soap, towel, diaper, and an outfit ready near you.
Ensure to choose natural skincare products for your baby. For instance, opt for a baby soap enriched with shea butter, calendula oil, and oatmeal extracts that gently cleanse and moisturise your baby’s skin.
A bath with your baby in a bathtub is a fun way to bond with him/her, but first, you need to check the water temperature before stepping into the tub. You can dip an elbow into the water to ensure that the water is warm but not too hot.
Keep testing the water temperature as you bathe your baby. Once the water gets too cool, it’s time to step out of the bath. According to The Mayo Clinic, it is recommended to keep the baby’s bath water at about 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celsius).
Whether it’s a body wash, shampoo, lotion, or any other product, keep the use of products minimal on your baby. Your baby’s skin barrier is delicate and is still maturing. Hence, their skin is sensitive and can dry out and get irritated easily. Use a very little amount of cleanser even for dirty areas such as diapers. Just take a small amount of baby wash and apply it to your baby’s skin for cleansing and soothing it.
It is not just using a minimal amount of products that you need to take care of, but also being mindful of what products you use on your baby. For common issues like diaper rashes, many parents tend to use baby powder to ease the condition. However, baby powders should be free from talc and should be applied the right way as they can cause respiratory problems and other health issues. Use a natural baby powder that is talc-free.
You can bathe your baby 2-3 times a week to keep her/him clean. But if your baby enjoys baths, you can carry your baby to the bath with you and cuddle under the water for a while or give a quick sponge bath with water only once a day. Bathing your baby more than required can dry out your baby’s delicate skin. Make your bath time with baby short, avoid giving your baby a bath for over 10 minutes if she/he has dry or sensitive skin.
Bathing with your baby can be a time to bond with her/him, use the time to snuggle and cuddle, till your baby is old enough to splash around in the bath with you!
