As a new parent, you might feel confused about how to raise your baby. How many times do you feed? How many hours should it sleep? How many times in a day can a baby cry? What if the baby slips and falls? All these are legit concerns, and we understand that. Don’t worry, we got your back.

Parents always get to hear things that they should do, but not things that they definitely must not. Here are a few things that you as a parent should NOT do to your baby –

1. Don’t Ignore Them!

Babies spend the first three years of their lives forming their opinions about the world and understanding how the world works. It is really important that you keep the baby engaged and active, as what the baby learns at this age is what s/he applies to the rest of his/her life. Also, babies are sensitive to touch, which means that physical contact is essential in establishing that everlasting bond of love between you and your baby.

2. Don’t Let Them Cry

Imagine that you are in pain, and you cry out. But no one listens or responds to you. How does that make you feel? Now imagine that, with the addition that you can’t even scream or speak, you can’t understand what’s going on and your brain systems are growing at a massive rate. As you can imagine, babies cry for the smallest of things – because they have no other way of expressing what’s going on with them. When your babies cry, they aren’t being fussy or throwing tantrums. It’s actually a call for attention!

3. Don’t Leave Them Alone

Solitary confinement is one of the worst things you can do to a human being, let alone babies. If you leave alone your baby for too long, s/he won’t be able to understand why s/he is being left alone. Babies need to be connected to their caregivers and need their companionship in order to grow. Also, children need to be taken care of until they are able to do so on their own.

4. Don’t Miss A Chance To Hold Them

Babies love to be held. Babies need to be held. Babies need to be able to get comfortable in loving arms early on, in order to learn to trust people. And admit it, holding a baby is on of the most lovely experiences of life. The amount of responsibility that comes with it is nothing compared to the amount of love one feels for the baby. Go on, hold the little one!

5. Don’t Punish

Your baby is just that – a baby. S/he doesn’t get the concept of punishments yet. Don’t hit or punish your baby. It might be satisfying for you, but it has known to have bad effects on the baby’s development. Remember that the baby is learning how the big bad world works, and you punishing the child can only have negative effects on the baby – s/he won’t be able to trust the world, and especially the caregivers, won’t trust him/herself, it might influence his/her interactions with the outside world and in turn affect the well-being of the baby. Do you still want to punish your poor baby?
