As a parent, witnessing your little bundle of joy crawl for the first time is a memorable occasion. It is also one of the first developmental milestones every parent looks forward to. Crawling is the phase between sitting up and walking, and there are many ways your little one can learn to crawl. Many parents also love to document their little one’s milestones so they can cherish these special moments for years to come, and also show the snippets to their children once they grow up.
Bollywood actor, Sonam Kapoor, who welcomed her son Vayu with husband Anand Ahuja last year, recently took to Instagram to show her munchkin’s latest developmental milestones. And guess what little Vayu has been up to? He is enjoying lots of tummy time and also trying to crawl. Read on to know what mama Sonam had to share about her little one’s development.
The new mama shared a heartfelt post on Instagram as her little one turned six months old. She expressed that motherhood by far is the best job for her, and added, “6 months of my Vayu. The best job in the world…my biggest blessing…love you, my darling boy…your papa and me couldn’t have asked for more.”
The actor shared two posts, the first one a snap of her with little Vayu playing on her lap, and the second one, a video, where her munchkin is seen trying to crawl and grabbing the toys kept in front of him.
Most babies typically start crawling once they are about six-seven months old. By the time your munchkin is 10 months old, you may notice them crawl efficiently on their hands and knees. But do keep in mind that developmental milestones may vary, and some babies may not start crawling until they are 12 months old. In addition, some babies may not even use their knees to crawl, and use their hands and bottoms to just scoot. Moreover, some tend to skip the crawling phase completely and start walking by pulling themselves up using their arms.
If you are looking forward to seeing your baby crawl, then there are tips that you can try to encourage your little one to master this developmental skill. More than teaching them to crawl, these tips will rather help your little one learn the skills that help stimulate this milestone.
For instance, you can take a cue from Sonam and her hubby Anand and place toys near your baby to encourage them to move their hands and knees to grab them. These movements will strengthen their bones and thereby help them crawl faster. Some other tips that you can try include.
Tummy time offers several health benefits and also encourages your munchkin to crawl. It also strengthens almost every muscle in your little one’s body and paves way for complex developmental achievements like walking.
So make sure your little one gets a lot of tummy time throughout the day, and try to start as early as they turn 2-4 months. You can gradually increase the duration of tummy time as your little one grows older. To make this activity fun and engaging, place objects and toys around your baby and let them experiment with reaching them on their own.
Sitting can help improve the supporting capabilities of your baby’s neck and back muscles. Once your little one turns six months old, make sure to place them in a sitting position for a few minutes, and allow them to stay in that position, every day. You can also give your baby a massage with a nourishing oil regularly to strengthen their muscles and bones and encourage them to crawl.
Create an engaging play area on the floor and fill it with attractive toys that your munchkin can safely explore. While you are at it, ensure to remove the carpet from your floor to create a smooth surface for your little one to crawl. You can also consider dressing your baby in long-sleeved clothing to prevent friction, and enable them to move freely.
We are happy to see that new parents Sonam and Anand are giving us a glimpse into little Vayu’s essential development milestones. Remember, every baby is different, and while some may achieve a particular milestone early, others may take a tad bit more time to reach the same goal. So instead of panicking, make use of the ways that we discussed above to encourage your munchkin to start crawling.
