A woman has been the primary caregiver of the family while a man is the breadwinner. This has been a socially accepted fact for generations. Earlier, after giving birth, new mums left their studies and careers to take care of the family and look after a newborn while their husbands continued with their work and contributed little to no effort in raising the child.
But it’s 2022 and times have changed. Many couples are now trying to find ways in which there can be an equal partnership in raising a kid without the onus falling on women only. In an interview with News18, Bollywood dad Kunal Kemmu shared his views on equal parenting. Now we have the dad-to-be Ranbir Kapoor sharing his views on equal parenting.
Recalling how he grew up watching the men in the Kapoor family engrossed in their work, while the kids were brought up by their mums, the Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani actor Ranbir Kapoor said he doesn’t want it that way.
“Alia and I have been talking about it for some time now, how we’re going share our responsibilities and how we’re going to share our time. We grew up in a generation where our fathers were quite busy with work and were not around us, so more or less we’ve been brought up by our mothers, so we were close to our mothers. I want to have a different dynamic with my children, I want them to be close to me also.”
The dad-to-be further expressed that he doesn’t want his wife Alia to sacrifice her dreams just because she is embracing motherhood and is therefore looking forward to planning out a “balanced life”.
Last month, actress Alia Bhatt announced the news of her pregnancy on Instagram by sharing a photo from her sonography session with hubby Ranbir Kapoor.
Recently, the Saawariya actor appeared on the show Ravivaar with Star Parivaar and took parenting tips from Anupamaa’s Rupali Ganguly.
Rupali then teaches him how to hold a baby in his arms with the help of a prop doll. The Wake Up Sid actor then holds the doll in his arms and says “Ale le meri beti (My daughter).” He also learns how to change a baby’s diapers and how to feed the little one.
The duo started dating in 2017 after working together on Ayan Mukerji’s film Brahmastra. After dating for nearly 5 years, Ranbir and Alia tied the knot in April 2022.
Ranbir Kapoor is currently promoting his upcoming film Shamshera, directed by Karan Malhotra. The film is set in the fictitious city of Kaza, where a warrior tribe is imprisoned, enslaved and tortured by a ruthless authoritarian general Shuddh Singh, played by Sanjay Dutt.
The mum-to-be Alia appeared recently in the first show of Koffee With Karan’s season 7.
