Striking a healthy work-life balance is as difficult as it is, but it can become more challenging during pregnancy. In the next section, we have discussed some tips to help you manage your work life better while you are expecting.
The difficulties associated with your pregnancy and career are easier to deal with if you do not have to hide them from your employer. Once you are comfortable announcing your pregnancy, tell your boss that you are expecting and discuss your maternity leave options.
It’s a good idea to announce this news to your co-workers as well. This way they can help you out on days when you are feeling a bit down due to morning sickness or nausea.
When you are juggling pregnancy and career, know that you are going to have both good and bad days. There will be days when you will be full of energy, and on others, you may experience fatigue and exhaustion.
Be a little strategic here, and get ahead at work on days when you are feeling good, complete projects before the deadline, and be as efficient as possible. This will allow you to take it easy on days when you are not feeling good.
Morning sickness is a common pregnancy symptom experienced during the first trimester. If you are experiencing nausea during pregnancy, you need to think of ways to tackle these symptoms while you are at work.
You can keep a packet of crackers on your desk to munch on to alleviate your symptoms, and an emergency kit, including a paper bag and washcloth in case you suddenly feel nauseous at your desk.
Also, try to take frequent breaks and walk a bit in between work. Remember, to have a healthy pregnancy, you shouldn’t be overexerting yourself in any way. So if you do feel overwhelmed, do take a step back from work, and take a break to regain your health.
If all the travelling to work is getting too hectic for you, then try to come up with a flexible work plan with your boss, such as working from home. You can be honest about your condition, and devise a proposal on how you’d prefer a flexible schedule and the ability to work from home.
This will help you take more rest, especially toward the end of your pregnancy, and also allow you to be more efficient at work.
Do not indulge in any kind of strenuous activity during pregnancy. While you are at the office, avoid taking too many flights of stairs, and do not venture into crowded spaces. Additionally, keep distance from people who are sick, and wash maintain strict hygiene measures to prevent contracting any viruses.
Also, make sure to dress wisely, and avoid wearing heels to work. They increase the risk of swelling in your feet and other discomforts, such as backache, and may also cause you to lose your balance if you are not careful.
