Tips To Keep Your Baby’s Skin Healthy In Any Weather

Avoid Diaper Rash

It’s common for babies to get diaper rash as they spend most of their babyhood in diapers till they are potty trained. You can avoid these rashes by changing your baby’s soiled diapers often and keeping them dry. Make sure you apply a natural diaper rash cream that contains non-nano zinc oxide, after every diaper change to keep the skin in that area safe from rashes.

Wet diapers left on for too long or even diapers that are too tight can cause rashes and skin irritation. Make sure you buy diapers according to your baby’s weight.

Keep Bath Time Short

Whether it’s summer, winter or monsoon, babies need to be kept clean and bathed. However, make sure you bathe them in warm water and keep the bath time short. Try and wrap up the bath in around 5-7 minutes and avoid letting your baby play or soak in soapy water. Use a natural, baby-safe moisturising baby wash instead of soap to bathe your baby.

Moisturise your baby’s skin as immediately after the bath once you pat them dry. Use a soft towel to pat them dry, rubbing the skin dry is not recommended. If your newborn’s cord has not fallen off yet, it’s best to give them a sponge bath or wipe them with natural baby wipes.

Use Sunscreen

The rays of the sun can be harmful to your baby’s skin even during monsoons and winter. Most parents make the mistake of applying sunscreen on their babies only during summer but sunscreen is necessary for all kinds of weather. Babies have very delicate and thin skin that can get easily birth by the strong rays of the sun, leaving it burnt, dry and irritated and even causing skin cancer. Apply baby-safe sunscreen at least twice a day.

It’s advisable to keep infants under six months away from direct sunlight. Make sure to apply a thick layer of sunscreen to uncovered areas of your baby’s skin.

Use A Gentle Detergent

Even though the detergent you wash your baby’s clothes with may not touch your little one’s skin directly, the laundered clothes touch your baby’s skin. Therefore it is important to use a laundry detergent that is gentle and chemical-free. Wash all of the baby’s belongings like blankets, towels, bedding, and clothes with a mild and gentle detergent to avoid rashes and itching.
