If your child has a hard time passing stool, your little one might be suffering from constipation.
Constipation in kids is when they have hard stools and have fewer bowel movements. This especially happens if you have recently introduced your little one to solid food. Solid food can put a strain on your baby’s developing digestive tract and can cause constipation.
The good news is that there’s a plethora of food and home remedies for constipation in babies. Mums can also opt for a tummy relief roll-on that can relieve children from the pain of constipation. Read on to know more.
Try to include these high-fibre foods in your child’s diet to relieve constipation:
You can give berries to your little one in pureed form. Berries will soften your child’s stool and increase the bowel movement frequency.
Each medium pear has six grams of fibre, about a quarter of what kids need in the day. You can also give a few drops of fresh pear juice to cure constipation.
Beans contain both soluble and insoluble fibre and will help in the digestion of food, helping your little one excrete properly.
You can give small steamed broccoli florets to your child as finger food. Broccoli also contains sulforaphane that protects the gut and aids digestion.
Oatmeal can provide your little one with much-needed fibre and can prevent constipation.
A packet of plain, instant oatmeal has four grams of fibre. You can top it with sliced fruit for an extra dose of fibre and a little honey or maple syrup for sweetness.
It is advisable to include more fruits and vegetables in your little one’s diet to prevent constipation. Make sure that your child is drinking enough water and other fluids. Try to check your little one’s intake of fast foods, junk foods, and soft drinks as eating too many foods that are high in fat and low in fibre can cause constipation.
