Following a proper AM/PM winter routine during pregnancy is important. The winter months can be challenging for pregnant women as they become more susceptible to cough, cold, infections, and skin issues which only add to the aches and pains that they already face during pregnancy.

But it’s not difficult to breeze through the winter if you follow a few simple AM/PM winter routines during pregnancy. Here’s how.

AM/PM Winter Routine During Pregnancy

Your AM/PM Winter Routine During Pregnancy Must Include:

AM

  • Staying Warm

Since you need to move around to do the household chores and even take care of the baby’s food etc. during the day, make sure you dress appropriately to keep your body warm during winter as the cold brings with it different health issues. During pregnancy, your body is sensitive to extreme weather conditions and the cold winter air makes you susceptible to colds and coughs. It’s advisable to cover yourself from head to toe. Wear layers of clothing so that it is easy for you to take them off or add more as required according to the temperature.

  • Using Moisturiser

During pregnancy, your body goes through a lot of hormonal changes. This makes your skin dry and the harsh winter weather makes it worse. Your skin becomes flaky, itchy and dry and that’s why you need a special AM routine during pregnancy for your skin. Besides avoiding hot baths and keeping bath time short, you need to apply a generous layer of moisturiser immediately after your pat your skin dry post-bath. Doing so helps your skin stay soft and hydrated. Apply moisturiser on your hands, elbows, legs etc.

  • Using Sunscreen

The sun’s rays are as harmful during winter as it is during summer. Once you moisturise your skin, make sure you protect your skin with natural sunscreen.

  • Staying Well-Hydrated

During winter we tend to drink less water but it is important to keep yourself well-hydrated during pregnancy in winter. The winter air is dry, and your body needs extra water. Drinking water is the best way to keep your system and your skin hydrated. Set reminders on your mobile phone so you remember to drink plenty of water.  Dehydration can lead to preterm labour and a host of other problems.

  • Staying Physically Active

Since you are mostly indoors during winter because of the cold, it is essential to exercise indoors as staying active during pregnancy is an important part of a pregnancy unless you have been advised bed rest by your doctor. You can do on-the-spot walking, yoga or aerobics indoors to keep yourself active.

PM

Everything in your pm winter routine during pregnancy should be centred around relaxation. Your pm winter routine during pregnancy must include:

  • A Light Dinner

Make sure your dinner is light and also have it early to avoid problems like acidity and indigestion. Having an early light dinner helps the food to digest better before you lay down to rest. Acidity, heartburn and gas are some of the issues all pregnant women face so avoiding heavy dinners will help keep all of them at bay.

  • Skincare

Cleansing your face before you retire for the night, keeps a check on all your skin-related issues. Use a face natural serum after you cleanse and moisturise it. Use clean and natural products for your skin. Apply body butter on your body. Taking a warm bath before you sleep will help you relax, but it’s not necessary to bathe daily during the winter.

Stretch marks are part of pregnancy and most pregnant women get stretch marks during pregnancy. Use one that is safe, natural and dermatologically tested and safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.

  • Listening To Calming Music

Listening to music is a great way to end the day. It helps you calm down and also helps you relax after a tired day. Pregnancy can be tiring besides being challenging and listening to music before you sleep will help you sleep better.
