Last year when Alia Bhatt launched her YouTube channel, she gave us a sneak peek into her daily skincare routine and a breakdown of the most essential formulas and ingredients that she relies on for her glowy and bouncy skin. Recently, the actress dropped another video with her sister, Shaheen, sharing her skin secrets and how she is taking care of her complexion postpartum. Throughout the video, the sisters talked about three things—their skin type, skin concerns, and finally the routine that each of them follows to target their skin issues. The new mum also revealed how her skin changed during pregnancy, and how she tackled them to keep her glow intact.

If you want the same moisturised, plump, and nourished skin as the new mum, we have culled the most important points from her postpartum skincare routine and the five holy grail steps she follows to boost her complexion health. Read on!

Alia’s Skin Type

The new mum revealed that she has combination skin and added, “Sometimes my skin can be very dry…I get dry patches, and sometimes I have like certain sections, like my T-zone that can get very very oily, and my pores can clog up very quickly if I don’t deeply cleanse.”

In addition to dealing with combination skin, Alia also deals with skin sensitivity, a condition which the actress felt aggravated during her pregnancy, and told, “My skin was extremely sensitive, where I just had to cut it down. I tried out so many products that were sensitive, but still irritated my skin.”

New Mum Alia’s Skin Insecurities

The star also talked about her skin insecurities along with her sis Shaheen and emphasised that these skin concerns must be addressed as that helps you form a targeted skincare routine. Alia disclosed that her primary skin insecurity has been acne, and added, “Although I don’t have massive breakouts, I struggle whenever I see that one odd pimple in my skin. But one thing that really helps me is using a pimple patch, and wearing it also prevents me from popping my pimples.” Another skin concern that the new mum also deals with is dry patches around her mouth and nose.

Alia’s 5-Step Postpartum Skincare Routine

Before breaking down her skincare routine post-pregnancy, the actor stated that she puts special focus on skincare as it serves as a form of preventative care and also makes her complexion look nourished, glowy, and healthy. Now let’s take a look at Alia’s 5 essential skincare steps that have helped nurture her complexion and tackle skin issues post-pregnancy.

Step 1: Cleanse

Whether she has a day at home or has to head to work, the new mum prefers to start her day by cleansing her skin. She uses a gentle cleanser as a mild formulation that works better on her skin as compared to a hectic cleanser. Alia is also against the use of cleansers that give your skin a tight feeling, and said, “I used to think earlier that this means my skin is getting super-clean, but rather I was just stripping the natural oils from my complexion.”

Step 2: Toning Mist

Next, Alia goes in with a toning mist packed with ceramides, which she calls a “hero ingredient, and building blocks of your skin.” The toning mist helps soothe skin texture, and also diminishes fine lines and wrinkles, and amps up hydration.

Step 3: Serum

The star prefers to use a peptide-infused serum in her AM routine. Alia’s sister. Shaheen explained the importance of using peptides in your skincare routine, and added, “Peptides are similar to ceramides and help with hydration and building your skin barrier.” To this Alia also added that while ceramides are more hydrating than peptides, the combination of the two can offer you a more potent formulation.

So in case, you can also consider adding a ceramide-based serum to your postpartum routine to help rebuild your skin barrier and replenish all the nutrients lost due to hormonal changes during pregnancy.

Step 4: Moisturiser

During her AM routine, the new mum prefers to stick to a lightweight moisturiser, a ceramide-based one, as it helps soothe, nourish, and strengthen her skin barrier to protect against any environmental triggers. During this step, the actor reminds the audience to not miss moisturising areas like your neck and ears as they tend to get dry more often and need ample nourishment.

Step 5: Sunscreen

The new mum revealed that sunscreen is a non-negotiable part of her skincare routine. To ensure that she is applying the correct amount of sunscreen, the actor also draws a “smiley face” on her palm with the product, before applying it to her skin. She also added, “I do this because when it comes to SPF, honestly, more is more!”

Step 6: Lip Balm

Alia ends her skincare routine, which she says is kind of a “lip treatment” and it helps with every concern like dryness and cracks. You can go for a natural and plant-based lip balm that helps deeply nourish and hydrate chapped lips, and apply it in your PM routine as well, or whenever your lips start to feel dry.

Alia Bhatt’s postpartum skincare routine mainly consists of barrier-strengthening products that help nourish her sensitive complexion and also protect her skin against environmental stressors. However, her skincare is simple to follow, and you can easily incorporate these steps into your own routine with the products that we have discussed to tackle your skin woes effectively.
