When we’re younger, we make new year resolutions. Once you’re married, you set parenting goals instead. Sort of milestones you want to reach with your child or changing the way you bring them up, in order to try to make them better human beings that their current path with your current teachings. Here are some of the parenting goals as set by some parents.
Most kids love to run and jump and be active. This ensures that they get adequate exercise throughout the day. However, there are many kids who don’t like exercising. Some parents of kids who were like this set a goal to make exercise more fun so that their little one would want to partake. Incorporating imaginative play can go a long way to achieving this. Also engaging in the activity yourself will show your babies that it’s fun and worth a try.
Saying “No” and “Don’t do this” or “Don’t do that” could introduce a lot of negativity in your kids’ lives. It might make them feel like they are inadequate because they are doing something wrong or that they’ve upset you. A few parents resolved to eliminate their usage of negative words. Instead, they give their kids alternatives to what they’re doing in order to show them what would be nicer or to distract them from the destructive activities they’re engaging in at that time.3.
Another popular trend is sending your kid to a playschool that has an ethnically diverse group of people. It increases their exposure to different people and cultures and can lead to increased empathetic understanding and cooperative behavior. This also means that playtime becomes so much more fun because there are a whole new bunch of games to play which you can bond over as your baby tries to teach them to you.
Your cupboards and refrigerators now have new decorations instead of your huge collection of magnets and posters. Parents are encouraging their child’s inner artist by hanging up their artwork around the house and on various flat surfaces. It shows them that they are appreciated and encourages them to keep at it so that they can improve and express their creativity. It creates an all round positive vibe at home.
Another way to encourage creativity, as well as bond with your baby, is to plan out some arts and crafts for you to do together. This could include making junk jewelry, or finger painting, or vegetable prints. It opens a whole new range of experiences for your kid while taking you back to your childhood, get messy with each other.
Masterchef is quite popular. Why not find out whether your kid is going to be a Junior master chef? Small cooking and baking projects with your kids is a great way to broaden your kids’ interests and watch them goof off in a whole other world of activities. The parents who attain these goals know the pleasure of watching that huge smile on their kids’ faces when they see the cookies coming out of the oven, knowing that they had a hand in making those.
An underappreciated parenting goal that many parents try to implement is allowing your kid to choose the activity for the day. Whether this includes on where to go out, or what cooking or craft project to get messy with, or where to go on holiday. Involving your kid in the decision making process does three things – firstly, it makes them feel important and valued; secondly, it ensures that they have fun, and if they don’t, they don’t blame you or throw a tantrum; and thirdly, it improves their decision making and thinking capacities and abilities as you guide them through it.
Another less appreciated parenting goal is to spend the holidays with your kids, immersed in the culture of the holiday. This means, teach your kid why you’re celebrating the holiday. It builds their cultural knowledge base and increases their understanding of how people work (this probably won’t be evident for a couple of decades). Make sure you do spend time with your babies because it’s a great chance to strengthen your bond and show them that they are a priority and that you care.9.
This is one of the most important parenting goals that some parents have figured out, which already make them masters of parenting. Whenever you and your kid have a disagreement, try to compromise to ensure that both of you are satisfied. You can’t force a kid to do something just because you’re the parent or the adult.
‘Cute and necessary’ is how we would describe these parenting goals.
