5 Unique Weekend Projects You And Your Kids Should Take On

Summer is all about summer camps, but what about this coming weekend? Have you thought about what activities you might engage your children in? Exams will be over and the kids are at home, wasting time and watching TV. You cannot even force them to study anymore. Nevertheless, you can get your kids busy with some creative ideas, which will keep them occupied and help them improve their creative, motor and neurological skills.

Here are 5 unique weekend project ideas for you and your kid.

1. Make a rainbow fan!

Do you have a table fan at home? Most of us do. Ask your kids to color the blades of these table fans in rainbow colours. Once you switch on the fan, your kids will have their very own rainbow fan made by them! You can also help your kids decorate this fan in other ways by making shapes of animals and birds to stick on the rim of their table fan.

2. Make an airplane swing or a skateboard swing in your background.

Do you have a wooden table or some furniture that you were planning to throw away? If yes, this is probably a great idea to make the best out of waste. Gather and cut wooden pieces for your kids and help them build a skateboard or a mini-airplane to sit in. Gather small screws, nuts and bolts. You can usually find these in a kid’s toy or a stationery shop to ensure safe handling. Once your model is built, hoist it up with a strong rope in your backyard. Watch as your kids dedicatedly work towards this project. This will not only build their motor and creative skills, but it will also save you the cost of buying an expensive swing set.

3. Make them some pumpkin sand.

Your kids love to play with sand, but you don’t always have the time to take them to a beach. This happens a lot, so why not just bring the sand to your house using pumpkin sand? You can make this sand with the simplest of ingredients and without shelling out much money. Just mix – play sand, cornstarch, pumpkin pie spice, water and liquid water colors and your play-at-home sand is ready!

4. Make a playhouse out of cardboard

It is not always necessary to buy expensive assimilation playhouses for your kids. You can help them to make one. Buy cardboard, some cello tape and glue. Assemble the playhouse with your kids, and ask them to make it any shape they want it to be (this way, it’s more fun for them). Color this house and add posters or drawings that your kids might like. This is relatively easy to make and can be done in a short span of time.It is also inexpensive. You can even help your kids make houses for their pets, if there are any.

5. Make a Lego town

Kids of all ages love Lego more than their other toys. Get them to use their Lego to make walls and base for their mini-lego-toy-town. They can use cardboard for some parts of this ‘construction project’ too. If you go for a cardboard on the base, then kids can draw roads, vehicles, playgrounds and other such objects on it to bring in the effect of a town or a city.
