Toddler Game Alert! Feed The Elephant

The toddler years are a great time to build fine motor skills and develop eye/hand coordination. Try this fun game to develop that skill by helping a hungry elephant gobble up treats! 🙂

This is a multi-purpose game which improves fine motor skills that children need to master before they learn handwriting, in order to have proper pencil grasp and control of a writing instrument.

Method:

  • Keep a bowl at one end of the room. That’s the elephant’s mouth.
  • You could also use empty boxes with eyes drawn on it
  • Spread out some peanuts or penne pasta on a table at the other end of the room.

How to play with your child: Encourage your child to pick up the peanuts using only their tongs and carry them across the room to place in the hungry elephant’s mouth! Don’t drop your peanut! Use those Super Fingers over and over again until there are no peanuts left. You may also want to use different coloured pom-poms to feed the elephant to enhance colour recognition.
