Now that both you and the baby have settled at home, you may notice that there’s a routine in place. From feeds to bath, to a little play time, down for a nap and before you blink an eye it’s time to feed again. Not to forget, all of this is on repeat mode 24×7. Lets not forget that in the middle of this are those other chores that never seem to stop, the major one being baby’s laundry.

 

As a new Mom you must have taken some time to wrap your head around what is the best way and how to maintain hygiene while washing baby’s clothes. If you are one among those who are still trying to get around this mundane but essential task then here are few hygiene hacks that will make life easier.

 

New baby clothes must always be washed beforehand: Shops tend to apply chemicals on them to make it look fresh and also to keep it odour free, washing beforehand will prevent baby developing any rashes.

 

Lightly iron on the reverse of the clothing to remove stickers. This will help remove any stickers without leaving any gummy residue.

 

Soak stubborn stained clothing in cold water & white vinegar, overnight and rinse well before putting in the machine.

 

Use Dettol and fabric softener while washing spit up clothes like burp cloths, bibs etc (make sure baby’s skin isn’t sensitive to these) and wash them well before adding to the machine or just had wash them.

 

Use hot water as much as possible for baby’s regular clothes excluding cloth diapers.

 

Cloth diapers should always be washed separately, its best first cleaned using a spray in the toilet, later soak them in cold water with baby liquid detergent and little white vinegar this helps get rid of the smell. Always wash cloth diapers in cold water or as per the label. Dry cloth diapers in the sun, this helps it dry better.

Dried up food stains can be tough to remove, try adding a paste of salt and baking soda and scrubbing it with a toothbrush, let it dry and wash it well with baby liquid detergent.

 

Use a mesh lingerie bag to wash socks and booties. Do you recall how it feels to find a pair of socks in the laundry, imagine searching for little booties, socks?

 

It’s best to wash baby’s clothes separately at least for the first 3 months.

Adding a 1 drop of lavender essential oil to the load will keep everything smelling fresh m but do make sure baby isn’t sensitive to lavender.

Washing baby’s clothes may seem like a daunting task but with these simple hacks you can get an effective wash & maintain hygiene while was baby’s clothes.
