Teaching Your Tots The Letter T!

We are almost heading towards the final installment of our “Letter of the week” series.  With just about 7 letters left, I am so excited to see how you will use these super awesome ideas from the series to introduce alphabets to your children!

This week let’s focus on some fun, hands-on ways of introducing the letter “T” to your tiny tots!

Here is an overview of our shelf set up for Letter “T”

Tray 1 consisted of us tracing sandpaper letters. If you don’t have sandpaper letters you can even ask your child to trace in grains, sand or salt tray! We also discussed objects starting with letter sound “tuhh” (e.g. tomato, tree, turtle, tiger, toaster and a top!).  

Next was a fun way of making uppercase letter T using wooden sticks. You can do this same work using straws or pencils!

How can we forget about tea and the child sized tea set while talking about letter T?! We had a lovely tea party pretending to play, using this beautiful porcelain set.

T is also for time telling. For this we read a Usborne book and also used a clock to match and make the timings mentioned in the book.

T is also for “transferring” – our favourite Montessori activity! For this one we transferred some pom poms and wicker balls into an egg tray using a tong!

T is also for teeth! For this we did a quick teeth brushing and polishing work using his baby toothbrush and a tooth model!

Next, we discussed about how tails differed from animal to animal! This “T is for Tail” task turned out to be great for my son as we got guessing, which tail belonged to whom!

We also played this fun head and tail matching puzzle from SkilloFun!

Next, I gave him an open ended game for the work “T is for Triangles” – For this I gave my son some foam triangles which were a part of one of our tangram set.

We also did our letter T dot marker work – you can even fill up the circles with normal colours, clay, flat marbles or stickers!

Also “T is for Tape” – for this my son cut and put small pieces of tapes onto the uppercase & lowercase letters.

Lastly “T is for Temple” – here we tried to recreate a temple using our wooden building blocks ☺
