How to teach letter S to your kid

The letter of the week series has really been a fun experience for my son and me! We keep revisiting the previous activities every now and then, and each time my son explores it in a different way! (I totally love such hands-on learning experiences). If you have missed any of the previous letters, please find them here .

This week let’s sway over to the super simple letter S!

As always we started with tracing lowercase print and cursive sandpaper letters:

We also spoke about few objects beginning with letter sound “Sssss” (like snake, sack, seal, sun etc).

S is for salt – and I felt this is a perfect opportunity to bring onto the shelf, a practical transferring activity using the salt!

S is also for salad! Here I set up a fun pretend play tray to let my little Chef stir up a yummy and healthy salad! We also added a can of soup and some slices of bread (to make an “S for sandwich!)

Next S is for solar system! Something that most children are intrigued about. For this mini-space unit we explored the planets (these are from Safari toobs), and also read a planet book!

S is also for soap! For this, we brushed up our life skills by doing a “soap scraping work” using real kitchen scraper. If you would like to try this activity, do ensure it is done only under adult supervision☺

One more practical life work – S is for socks. Here we tried our hand at rolling and folding his baby socks!

Next, some fun sensory play! S is for sand and sea shells ☺

And lastly, S is for sun – for this we tried colouring a paper plate in yellow colour to make it look like Sun! We also painted the Sun flash card we had!
