While most moms surely want to have vaginal birth since it means postpartum recovery is quicker, that is not always the case. In this day and age since we are not as active as our ancestors, we tend to tear or may need an episiotomy at the time of delivery. The perineum which is the area between your vagina and the anus is not elastic enough and there may be tears if the doctor decides to perform an episiotomy, which is an incision made to widen the area.
What is important is the postpartum care of this area.
