It's a non stress test. Generally done over a span of fifteen to thirty minutes. You will be strapped with an instrument which will measure the baby's heart beat. Since it is done over a long period of time and not just like the Doppler in your doctor's clinic it measures the changes in the baby's heart rate and based on these fluctuations helps determine the baby's over all well being. It is generally recommended to moms between week 37 to 42 to help determine if labor should be induced or it's fine to allow the baby to stay a little longer and wait for labor to start naturally
