5 Items To Let Your Child’s Imagination Run Wild!

When we have our first child, our immediate instinct is that we need to be doing something for him or her at all times in the day. While this is true, it’s also not true. In this day and age, we are bombarded by so much information on how to make our children reach their developmental milestones early or at least on time. We worry that we aren’t stimulating our child enough with the “right” toys. We worry that if we don’t play with our children correctly, it will cause delays or our child won’t be up to the standard we want.

So is it our job to make sure our child is entertained every minute of every day?

No, it’s not.

Try to remember when we grew up. We didn’t have access to all of the fancy learning toys that our children have access to. And most of us grew up learning how to think and create because of this.

It’s not a bad thing to encourage children to use their imaginations. It’s okay to leave them to their own devices once in a while so they learn to create things on their own.

Here are a few ways and things I have let my child play with just to see what she will do (we do keep her safety in mind and every single thing we do is only if it is completely protected and under our supervision):

1. Plastic cups: She loves her plastic cups. She has started using them as megaphones as well. She will put her mouth on the edge of the cup and make noises into it so it amplifies.

2. Boxes: My husband has used the diaper boxes we have on hand to push our child around as if she is riding a train or a car. She also likes putting and taking her toys out of the boxes.

3. Music: If we play any type of music, especially nursery rhymes from Ghotu Motu Ki Toli, she will start dancing and singing. Songs that have dancing in them like Baarish Aaye Chham Chham are great because my child will try to do those dances with the characters on the screen.

4. Toy rings: Most toy rings either are meant to be linked or stacked. My child has started putting them on her wrists as bracelets and will cruise around the house like that.

5. Pots, pans, bowls, utensils: These items make the best musical instruments. They can be banged against each other or tapped with a spoon and create different types of sounds which is so much fun for the kids.

Giving our child some freedom to play gives them some freedom to learn. It gives them a way to develop their minds. It also gives us a chance to sit back and just enjoy seeing the different creative things our children do. I love watching my child do things I wouldn’t have ever thought of before. So pull out some items for your child to play with and watch their imaginations run free
