It’s not unusual anymore that we hear mums facing issues with breastfeeding – not getting enough milk, or unable to satisfy baby’s needs for some or the other issues. With advancement in technology, we have Milk banks to our rescue today.
News like this offer a new ray of hope to working mothers, adoptive mothers, mothers of premature babies and many other mothers who simply can’t feed their baby. As a doctor refers to, in this news article, – mother’s milk is nothing less than ‘Liquid Gold’ for babies. There are several ‘real’ nutrients that can’t be simply replaced by Formula Milk.
BabyChakra’s own research team has discovered the following Milk banks in India.

WHO and UNICEF, made a joint statement in 1980: “Where it is not possible for the biological mother to breast feed, the first alternative, if available, should be the use of human milk from other sources. Human milk banks should be made available in appropriate situations.” – says a report published by the Maternal and Child Health Sub-Committee of the Maharashtra state government. It also says that babies who have been breastfed, have fewer learning disabilities.
Questions like these by mothers during Live Chats on BabyChakra make it clear that the need is real! – “Why doesn’t anyone tell you how hard breastfeeding can be and why is it more difficult for some people and less for others?” ; “I am told it’s possible for adoptive mothers to breastfeed too. Does it involve hormone induction like in IVF? Any repercussions on the health of either?”; “What foods do we eat to ensure I have enough milk for my baby?”.
Even though a relatively recent trend in the country, we sincerely hope that milk banks become assets to those mothers who want to nourish their babies with breast milk but are unable to, for some reason.
